United Nations General Assembly
During the historic presidency of Father Miguel d’Escoto of the sixty-third session of the United Nations General Assembly (2008 – 2009), Paul worked as his primary speech writer and media adviser, often serving as his spokesperson during press briefings at the UN.
The speeches, two-to-five texts per week on a range of issues, were crafted to advance the President’s complex and ambitious agenda for reasserting the 192-member General Assembly as a forum for truly representative global debate.
The President’s public statements enabled him to boldly articulate an ethical approach to address unfolding crises, including the global economic breakdown, Israel’s invasion of Gaza, the overthrow of the Honduran president and climate change.
