Marsha Vanderford

 
 

Dr. Marsha Vanderford is a health communication strategist and expert in risk communication. Winner of the International Crisis & Risk Communication Conference 2022 Practitioner Award, Marsha has provided on-going strategic communication support to the World Health Organization (WHO) during COVID-19. Prior to joining Rain Barrel’s network, Marsha was Director of Communication at WHO. Before that she spent 17 years at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), directing communication programmatic work for the Agency’s Global Health Center and leading the Emergency Risk Communication Branch. At WHO and CDC, she led each organization’s risk communication responses for global emergencies including Zika virus, H1N1, and Hurricane Katrina. Marsha has conducted health communication capacity-building and related activities in more than a dozen countries including China, Myanmar, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Guatemala, and Peru. She is a U.S. citizen, based in Washington state.
