Karl Spence is a multi-sectoral qualitative researcher and expert in health-related risk and crisis communications and media relations.  With more than 20 years of UN and NGO experience in South Asia, Asia Pacific, Eastern and Southern Africa, the former Soviet countries of Europe and Central Asia, and the Middle East, Karl is passionate about health-sector capacity development and strengthening health literacy through consultative strategy development and implementation.

Inspired by the first International Conference on Primary Health Care, held in 1978 in Almaty (then called Alma-Ata), Kazakhstan, Karl has a deep interest in both the history of primary health care and the role of strategic communications in health-sector planning and reform. Results and consensus oriented, Karl thrives in diversity and mobilizes partners and colleagues to seek innovative and evidence-based solutions to complex challenges. Karl is a dual Australian and British national. He has a MA in applied anthropology from the Australian National University.
